Avrum Burg speaks at the peace conference in the Negev

1. The human test of a society is in its relation to the minority, the underprivileged, the other and the distant. That's why in Rahat we are establishing the Equality Coalition for All. We believe there is a possibility of another life. A life of freedom, security and hope for all the sons and daughters of the space between the river and the sea. A life of mutual respect, acceptance of the other while preserving identity, belonging and tradition.

2. War is a failure and hatred is a disease. Evil has no limits. And good and brave have no national identity card either. And the heroes of Rahat together with the victims of the Bedouin community are the proof.

3. A ruined house is a sad child and the grave of another hope that died. Politics of correction is essential. And it is only possible with true human and civil equality where all human beings are truly equal.

4. Each of us - individuals or communities - is not strong enough. Together we are a community of power. It is the "us" of peace against "them" of war. This is the "us" of a country that belongs to all its citizens against a democracy of racists that promotes damned Jewish supremacy.

5. This is a call to the end of fear. To tell the truth as it is: Israel is led by an evil government that promotes bad policies. We are the coalition against their despair: we will replace them with a shared life of respect among different people, a community of moderation instead of extremism, incitement and the industries of murder and bereavement.

6. And our alternative is simple: peace, equality, and brotherhood. even when it's hard. especially when it's hard. Because today we are needed more than ever. And here from Rahat, the Negev of peace we answer: we are here. And we will not stop until we reach the other Israel and our Jerusalem government.
