The "All Its Citizens" party harshly denounces the brutal assault by right-wing thugs on Member of Knesset Ayman Odeh during and after his speech at the demonstration in Ness Ziona today.The party also condemns the conduct of the Israeli police, who made no effort to prevent the attack and failed to prepare in advance, despite warnings and appeals from the organizers of the protest.

The boldness of the right-wing assailants is fueled by the hostile atmosphere created by attacks from right-wing Knesset members and government ministers against Arab MKs, by efforts to silence and expel MK Ayman Odeh from the Knesset, and by the general incitement against Arab citizens. This incitement legitimizes attempts to choke freedom of speech and expression — and the silencing in the Knesset and the government is now spilling into the streets.

The party demands that the police protect Arab MKs during their participation in demonstrations and ensure their full right to freely express their views and opinions.It also calls on the police to open a serious investigation into this attack and bring those responsible — both planners and perpetrators — to justice.

The threat to democracy and the rule of law is real and growing.All necessary steps must be taken to stop this chaos, protect democracy and the personal safety of Arab Knesset members, and safeguard freedom of expression for all citizens of the state.
