It was announced yesterday that the fourth victim of the missile strike in Beersheba is the stubborn fighter against war and for peace – Naomi Shaanan. Peace movements and the families of the abductees are saddened and mourning her death.
Naomi was born in 1952 and worked at the Ben-Gurion University Library in Beersheba until her retirement. For years, she volunteered in reading to the blind and helping the elderly, and regularly participated in the "101" stand in support of the families of the kidnapped.
Naomi was a tenacious fighter for peace, equality, partnership, and social justice. She was a member of the "All Its Citizens" party, the "Standing Together" movement, and other struggle groups. She took an active and daily part in activities and demonstrations against the occupation, against the war in Gaza, against the legal coup, for the return of the kidnapped, for a withdrawal from Gaza, for the overthrow of the Netanyahu government, and for Jewish-Arab partnership.
According to her will, there will be no funeral for her, but a support stand will be held in Beersheba in her memory. The "Headquarters of the Families of the Prisoners of War" eulogized Sha'anan, describing her as "an inspiring local symbol, who dedicated her entire life to the struggle of the prisoners of war."
May her memory be blessed.
