The Israeli government must stop seeking representatives for the Palestinian people who are subordinate to it and speak to their legitimate leadership.

The Israeli government has sought and continues to seek representative alternatives to the leadership of the Palestinian people. The only legitimate representative of the Palestinian people is the PLO, which is officially recognized by all countries of the world without exception, including the United States, the Arab states, and Israel itself.

"Abu Shabaab", clan representatives, tribal representatives in Gaza, and new village associations are no substitute for the Palestinian Authority, which is part of the PLO, with which Israel has signed a series of official bilateral and international agreements.

The desperate attempts to create an alternative leadership for the Palestinian people, which would be subordinate to the Israeli intelligence and military and the Israeli prime minister, are pathetic and failed attempts. An escape from reality and from the only path that leads to security and permanent peace, negotiations with the sole legitimate representative of all components of the Palestinian people.

The Israeli government is repeating historical mistakes, including its support for Hamas, Dahlan, village associations in the West Bank, and so-and-so, instead of acting against the only entity capable of signing a peace and security agreement.

The time has come to sign an agreement that will return the kidnapped – alive and dead – and to negotiate with the Palestinian Authority on a historic reconciliation agreement with the Palestinian people and to establish permanent peace between Israel and Palestine and between Israel and all Arab states that have declared their willingness to do so.

Only such a peace will bring permanent security and economic prosperity to Israel and all the peoples of the region.
