Tonight: Joint Israeli-Palestinian Memorial Day ceremony to commemorate Nakba and Palestinian-Israeli Independence Day

This evening, Tuesday, April 29, 2025, the 20th joint Israeli-Palestinian Memorial Day ceremony will be held simultaneously in Tel Aviv and Beit Jala, as every year, to commemorate the Nakba and Palestinian-Israeli Independence Day, on the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the joint movement.

The forum's announcement stated:

"The last year and a half have been some of the most difficult we have experienced. The current war has left behind destruction, pain, and loss. Faced with this harsh reality, it is easy to sink into despair, anger, and loss of faith. But precisely now, when darkness and hatred are increasing, we choose to stand together and shine a light.

This year, despite everything, and actually because of everything – we will hold the joint Memorial Day ceremony for the 20th time, a joint initiative of the Fighters for Peace organization and the Bereaved Families Forum."

The ceremony is organized by the "Bereaved Families Forum" group and the "Fighters for Peace" group under the slogan "Hope and Humanity," with the aim of promoting reconciliation and ending the cycle of violence.

The ceremony will be broadcast live to 160 private and public screening sites throughout Israel and the world, including the United States, Germany, England, Norway, Austria, the Netherlands, Canada and Switzerland.

The ceremony will be hosted by Israeli artist Shira Gefen and urban planner Fadaa Shehadeh. It will be attended by Liat Achieli, who survived the Kibbutz Nir Oz massacre and was a prisoner in Gaza, alongside Palestinian speakers who lost loved ones during the war.

The ceremony will also include musical performances by Jewish and Arab ensembles, a poetry performance by artist Mari Manassi, as well as a screening of a short film about young Israelis and Palestinians who have lost their loved ones but believe in hope and joint action.

Let us recall that the Bereaved Families Forum brings together Palestinian and Israeli mothers who lost their children during the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The ceremony recalls the pain of both peoples and emphasizes the need for peace, which is the only way to return the kidnapped, prevent the killing of innocent people, and live in security.
